INSTRUCTIONS: SET UP YOUR PRINTER THE RIGHT WAY

Unboxing your new printer should be exciting, not confusing. We’ve made this guide as easy and clear as possible. It works for most HP models like Deskjet, Envy, OfficeJet Pro, Smart Tank, and LaserJet.

Follow along step by step, and you’ll be printing in no time.

Step 1: Take Everything Out of the Box

·        Open the box and remove each item.

·        Carefully take the printer out of the box and set it on a flat, steady surface. 

·        Take off all the tape and packing materials from both the inside and outside of the printer.

 

Step 2: Plug in the Printer

·        Plug one end of the power cord into the printer and the other into a wall socket.

·        Press the power button to turn it on. The display screen should light up.

 

Step 3: Load Some Paper

·        Pull out the paper tray from the bottom or back.

·        Move the paper guides until they sit closely against the edges of the paper.

·        Add plain white paper into the tray. Make sure it’s stacked neatly and not overfilled.

 

Step 4: Install Ink Cartridges

·        Open the cartridge access door.

·        Wait until the ink carriage moves into place.

·        Remove the protective tape from the new cartridges. Do not touch the copper contacts.

·        Place each cartridge into its matching color slot and press gently until it clicks.

·        Close the access door.

 

Step 5: Align the Ink for Best Quality

·        Your printer may print an alignment page.

·        Complete the alignment by following the on-screen prompts or the steps in the manual.

·        This helps improve print clarity.

 

Step 6: Connect the Printer to WiFi

·        On the printer screen, go to the Wireless or Setup menu.

·        Choose WiFi setup and select your home network.

·        Enter your WiFi password and wait for the connection to complete.

 

Step 7: Install Printer Software and Drivers

You have two options here. Use the CD that came with the printer or download everything from HP’s site.

If you’re using the CD:

·        Insert the CD into your computer.

·        Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

·        Choose your connection type — USB or wireless — when asked.

If you’re downloading:

·        Visit 123.hp.com or support.hp.com.

·        Type in your printer model and download the latest software.

·        Launch the downloaded file and go through the instructions to install the necessary drivers.

·        Select your connection type during setup.

 

Step 8: Print a Test Page

·        Open any document on your computer or phone.

·        Select your printer and press print.

·        Check that the page prints correctly. If it looks good, you’re all set.

 

Step 9: Set Up Mobile Printing (Optional)

Looking to print directly from your smartphone or tablet?

·        Get the HP Smart app from Google Play or the App Store.

·        Open the app and add your printer by following the instructions.

·        You’ll be able to print, scan, and check ink levels from your phone.

 

Step 10: Keep Things Running Smoothly

If you run into issues, use the HP Smart app or visit HP’s support page for quick solutions.

·        Clean the printhead every now and then to keep print quality sharp.

·        Replace cartridges when the ink runs low.
